Neurofeedback Devices
Neurofeedback is a scientifically based method used worldwide to measure and train brain activity. It works on the basis of the electrical brain activity measurable in the EEG (electroencephalogram). A neurofeedback device recognises deviations from defined frequency bands – or matches with a set training goal – in real time and feeds them back visually or acoustically.
How does a neurofeedback device work?
Electrodes on the scalp pick up the EEG. The device translates these brainwaves into immediate feedback through software or an app. When the brain reaches the desired state, the feedback is rewarding; when attention drifts, it changes accordingly. Over repeated sessions users practise self-regulation. The user can choose the reward themselves – for example a piece of music, a video clip or a game scenario.
Towards the end of a training series the intervals between sessions are increased to test how stable the results are. Once they hold, the training can be ended.
Professional neurofeedback devices for clinics and practices
For professional use, Mindfield offers the MindMaster series: the MindMaster Neuro 4 with 2-channel EEG for pure neurofeedback, and the MindMaster Neuro 9/11 and BioNeuro models with up to 6 EEG channels. The BioNeuro line additionally combines neurofeedback with peripheral biofeedback (EMG, EDA, skin temperature, pulse, respiration) in one system. The MindMaster Neuro 4 cannot be upgraded to the other devices in the series; all other MindMaster devices can be extended as needed.
Neurofeedback for home use
The eSense EEGenius was designed for guided neurofeedback home training: a 1-channel EEG system that is easy to apply and runs structured sessions through a free browser app – available to rent and used together with a trained supervisor.

Professional neurofeedback training
For professional use we recommend a certified training. Our training partner, the Academy for Neurofeedback (AfN), offers a modular neurofeedback trainer/therapist training at several locations across Germany. The 4-stage training (NFB 1–4) in small groups of max. 5 participants teaches sound knowledge – including a final examination and supervision – using Mindfield MindMaster devices among others. Advanced courses on multi-channel EEG and special topics are available for experienced users.
